Overview

VIRINA Steel (VIRINA) is a steel products company that offers a world changing, revolutionary steel product based on a proprietary production process. Virina markets, licenses and sells steel products that are offered as an uncoated steel microstructure that is fundamentally better than conventional steelin both strength and corrosion resistance.This pioneering steel product is unlike any steel available in the marketplace. Virina steel can be made in all shapes and sizes for applications in all segments of the market.

 

Problems with Conventional Steel

In conventional steel, high strength is achieved at the expense of elasticity. Internal stresses resulting from traditional quench and temper hardening processes can result in hot and cold cracking at welds. In many applications, structural or functional demands are met at the expense of increased weight. High hardness is achieved at the expense of ductility, machine workability, weldability, and elasticity/tensile strength. The process through which many characteristics are achieved is usually that of tempering already quenched material, thereby arriving at the desirable hardness. This creates a downstream processing issue whereby the application of heat can have the effect of further weakening/softening, creating a point of potential catastrophic failure.

 

With VIRINA Steel, issues related to hardness achieved through heat treatment are eliminated. The grain structure and physical properties are consistent along all three axis. What this means in practical terms is that two plates of VIRINA F-1000 can be welded with powder filled rods (which create the same formulation within the bead), creating a join with continuous properties. There are no temper related issues. If needed, the steel can be further treated to surface nitriding if the intended application calls for it (pins, for example).

  • VIRINA steel is STRONGER than conventional steel. This allows the use of less steel to make product:

  • Save on energy used for steel making (lower energy per ton of steel made)

  • Use less iron ore and coking coal plus other minerals and additives

  • Our steel does not require as much or none of the more exotic and more expensive minerals used to make traditional high grade steel. This has direct contribution to the environment:

  • Less mining, transport and refining of those minerals

  • Virina steel can be made from scrap steel (recycling)

  • No Quenching & tempering: reduce energy required in steel making and secondary manufacturing process

  • Reduce material used to make parts because Virina steel is stronger

  • More rust resistant: products lasts 2-5 times longer

  • More abrasion resistant: products lasts 3-10 times longer

 

Examples

  • A passenger car made with our steel can reduce its weight by 10% which leads to better fuel efficiency and less pollution.

  • A cargo ship’s weight can be reduced by more than two tons plus resulting in more interior cargo carrying space. This will allow for more cargo to be transported with the same amount of fuel. This reduces emission per ton of cargo transported.

  • Our rebar is 3 times stronger than conventional rebar. This allows for infrastructure and building design using 30% less steel and also less cement because of the added strength of our steel. Additionally, structures made with our rebar will last longer because our steel is 2-5 times more corrosion resistant.

  • By using less steel for products:

    • Less raw material needs to be extracted from the environment

    • Less raw material to transport and also

    • Less energy used to process these raw materials.
